- 마틴 로이드 존스(Martyn Lloyd-Jones)의 죽음 설교 -
많은 이들은 로이드 존스를 가리켜 목회자, 박사, 저술가, 강연자, 청교도 후예, 설교자 등과 같은 다양한 호칭을 붙이며 그에 향한 찬사를 아끼지 않는다. 또한 로이드 존스에 관한 연구물들을 살펴보면 주로 그의 목회(설교) 사역, 신학 강연, 혹은 성령 세례에 초점을 두고 연구될 뿐 아니다. 그렇지 안다면, 로이드 존스에 관한 연구는 주로 로이드 존스의 설교 신학의 집대성인 Preaching and Preachers 『설교와 설교자』와 함께 그의 설교들을 분석하면서 그리스도 중심의 설교를 논하는 것이 주류를 형성한다. 그러나 2차 세계대전(World War II) 이후 로이드 존스가 지속적으로 설교한 ‘죽음 설교’ 에 관한 연구는 전무한 듯하다. 실제로, 로이드 존스는 2차 세계대전 이후 대략 10년 정도 죽음 설교를 통해 전쟁의 무서움과 죽음을 경험한 자들에게 기독교적 관점에서 고난과 죽음의 의미와, 참된 위로를 선물했다. 특히, 로이드 존스는 약 10년 동안 죽음에 대하여 연속적으로 강해했다. 왜냐하면 1차 세계대전(World War I)은 영국에 직접적인 피해를 입히지 않았지만, 2차 세계대전으로 인하여 영국은 독일로부터 직접적인 공습을 받았을 뿐 아니라, 수많은 사람들이 죽음을 목도한 아픔을 주었기 때문이다. 그러므로 우선, 논문은 2차 세계대전과 영국 상황을 간략히 서술할 것이다. 왜냐하면 로이드 존스의 죽음 설교는 2차 세계대전을 경험한 교회 공동체를 위해 전해진 말씀이기 때문이다. 둘째, 논문은 로이드 존스의 죽음 설교를 이해하기 위하여 그의 교리 강해 설교, 베드로후서 강해 설교, 요한복음 14장 강해설교, 시 73편 강해 설교에 나타난 핵심 내용을 논할 것이다. 또한 논문은 로이드 존스의 생애를 소개하지 않는다. 단지, 로이드 존스의 죽음 설교를 설명하면서 그의 생애가 필요하다면 부분적으로 다뤄질 것이다.
Martyn Lloyd-Jones' Sermons on Death
People have known Martyn Lloyd-Jones as a pastor, doctor, author, lecturer, Puritan descendant, preacher, etc., and praise him. Therefore, the study of Lloyd-Jones focuses on his pastoral ministry, theological lectures or the baptism with the Holy Spirit, and also deal with Lloyd -Jones' homiletical theology by analyzing his sermons with his book, Preaching and Preachers However, there seems to be no research on Lloyd- Jones' sermons about death that he has continuously preached since World War II. In fact, Lloyd-Jones gave christian perspective and real comfort to those who experienced the fear of war through the sermons on death for about a decade after World War II in Westminster Chapel. This is because World War I did not directly damage Britain, but World War II resulted in Britain air raids from Germany, resulting in many deaths. In other to deal with Lloyd-Jones' sermons on death, firstly the paper will briefly describe the Second World War and the UK situation. This is because Lloyd Jones' sermons on death are for the church community that experienced World War II. Secondly, in order to understand Lloyd-Jones' sermons on death, the paper will discuss his theological insights about death in his biblical-doctrinal preaching, expository preaching on 2 Peters, expository preaching on John 14 and expository preaching on Psalm 73. And this article does not introduce the life of Lloyd-Jones in details, but if it needs to explain Lloyd-Jones' sermons on death well, I will introduce his life in part.
